Airport terminal upgrade

$230,000 one-off cost

Wanganui's airport terminal is long overdue for an upgrade. Kitchen and bathroom facilities are sub-standard and both the internal and external décor is old and worn.

Upgrading the airport terminal aims to provide a positive first impression of Wanganui, instill pride in the community and in those who work at the airport. Improvements will include tidying up the main entrance, proper signage, new kitchen and bathroom facilities, new carpet and furniture, a regularly-serviced business directory board with local accommodation and other visitor information. The airport's apron (arrivals and departures) will improve with new paving, seating and plantings.
Plans: Current and proposed terminal layout

Kieron Clarke, Chairman of the Airport Management Board:

"Wanganui airport is a major gateway to our city and district for
business, tourism and general public. Upgrading all the airport's
facilities is crucial if we are serious about maintaining and improving
how Wanganui facilitates the functions of running and administering an
airport operation.

"We need to protect the airport's assets, which includes not only the
terminal and surrounding commercial complex, but also the scheduled
flights that deliver people to and from Wanganui.

"It's imperative that facilities like the runway and security
requirements comply with CAA regulations. Getting our airport into shape
should be a top priority for our city."
