Castlecliff Beach development

$150,000

Castlecliff Beach will once again be a desirable spot for swimming and recreation for the whole family.

Developing the beach will involve flattening the sand between the car park and sea, removing some of the low dunes and driftwood, sprucing up the buildings, and building wind and sand breaks.Weeds will be removed and appropriate species planted to stabilise the dunes.

It's proposed that during the next year, $150,000 will go towards resource consents and some of the physical work required. Ongoing maintenance costs, e.g. managing constant sand build-up, removal of driftwood and other debris, are estimated at $50,000 annually.

Ailsa Stewart, Chairman of the Castlecliff Linking Group:

"We look forward to further developments to enhance Castlecliff Beach, and we'll be working closely with the newly formed working party."
