Fitzherbert Ave extension to Mosston Road

Year 1 $14,500
Year 2 $194,300

Extending Fitzherbert Avenue through to Mosston Road will improve access to and from Castlecliff as well as increasing traffic safety.

An extended Fitzherbert Avenue will provide the shortest route from Castlecliff to the city centre. Totara Street will become safer by the reduction in traffic volumes - many children use Totara Street on their way to and from school.

Part of the proposal is to construct a cycleway and footway for cyclists and pedestrians. Crashes and congestion at the Alma Road/Carlton Avenue/Jackson Street intersection and in Puriri and Totara Streets will reduce due to less traffic. This project will attract Transfund subsidies.

Ailsa Stewart, Chairman of the Castlecliff Linking Group:

"The people of Castlecliff are very keen to see the extension of Fitzherbert Avenue as a further route to the seaside suburb of Castlecliff. With the increase in the amount of traffic and logging trucks that use the industrial route - Heads Road - Castlecliff is really going ahead."
