Footpath maintenance and renewals

$150,000 per annum

Wanganui has 318km of footpaths mainly used by pedestrians, people who travel by mobility scooter and recreational walkers and joggers.

This project is an ongoing programme to improve footpaths, particularly in areas of greatest need. Members of the community, particularly children, the elderly and the infirm, have been hurt when they have tripped on uneven or broken footpaths, especially concrete slab paths.

The proposal is to allocate $150,000 a year for four years to footpath maintenance and renewals. This will enable the speedy repair of tripping hazards on footpaths and the upgrading of footpaths in areas of greatest need.

Graham Adams, President of Grey Power Wanganui:

"Much of the city's 318km network of footpaths is in good/very good condition
but that which is not is in urgent need of maintenance. This project will be
welcomed by the community in general and particularly by the city's elderly
folk - many of whom suffer from failing eyesight."
