Public artworks/sculpture

$50,000

To reflect the strong art culture andcommunity in Wanganui, we propose to commission local or national artists to design outdoor artworks and/or sculpture that can be enjoyed by both residents and visitors.

The artwork will symbolise the wealth of talent and creativity that we have in our community.

Wanganui currently has very little artwork around the city and this will be an opportunity for our artists to display their work and receive national, and even international, recognition. Artists will have the scope to design functional or decorative artwork or sculpture using materials like concrete, steel and wood.

It's proposed to allocate $50,000 for two or three pieces of outdoor public artwork or sculpture over the next year.

Marie McKay, Arts Developer - Whanganui Arts, Culture and Heritage Trust:

"Public artworks will allow art to be accessible to us all. They will enhance our public spaces and build a vibrant and attractive city - and reflect who we are, making visible our strength as an art centre and situating us as a city with a rich cultural life."
