Splash Centre extension

Year 1 $1.25m*
Year 2 $1.25m
*
The Splash Centre will transform into a total recreational experience for the whole family.

Added to existing facilities will be a hydroslide, a training pool, a toddlers' pool, saunas, a café, new changing rooms and shower, a 'lazy river' (water shaped in a figure of eight for lilo-riding), and possibly an outdoor BBQ area. Improvements will include seating for adults near children's play areas, and accessible facilities for people with disabilities.

New facilities will cater for greater numbers and will satisfy the strict health and safety requirements of schools and other group-run activities.

*The additional operating expenditure of this project will need to be borne by the Splash Centre and not the Council. Council's contribution is the capital funding and some projects may need to 'cut their cloth' as a consequence.

John Unsworth, spokesman for the Splash Centre Development Project '05 Committee:

"The planned redevelopment is not just about kids - although the 85-90 metre hydroslide is a real attraction - but also for adult use for fitness and health purposes, and the hospital for hydrotherapy.

"We recommended to Council that the Splash Centre should be redeveloped to cater for the currently un-met swimming and recreational needs of locals, anticipated future needs, as well as being a potential first stage redevelopment of Springvale Park as the centre of Wanganui sport.

"The people of Wanganui need to give Council the mandate to proceed by voting for the Splash Centre redevelopment. It's your community project - let's make it happen."
