Central City waterfront development

Year 1 $130,000
Year 2 $130,000

Reconnecting the riverfront to the city will turn the Whanganui River's edge back into the thriving commercial hub it used to be and reinforce our arts, culture and heritage strengths.

People are rediscovering the river's beauty and are increasingly using it as a recreational area despite difficulty of access to some areas. The development will improve the area's design, security and maintenance, allow less vehicle traffic, and create a continuous river's edge and green corridor that connects to the bridge walks up and down the river.

A whole river experience will include a boardwalk along the river's edge, courtyard type spaces and amenities such as BBQ, seats, lighting and toilets.
