Wanganui Referendum '05 - official results

The official results for Wanganui Referendum '05 have been released, with no changes to the preliminary rankings.

Each person listed on the Wanganui electoral roll was given the opportunity to prioritise three choices out of 14 optional projects for Council funding.

The Splash Centre extension came out in first position in the results announced on June 3, followed by the Central City waterfront development and footpath upgrades.

However, the results did not include the "special" votes which had to be counted separately. Those votes have now been processed and there are no changes to any rankings although the percentages of votes have altered slightly.

Of the 16,864 votes cast, 14,653 votes were counted electronically with a further 1618 votes counted manually. There was a total of 16,271 valid votes and 593 informal votes.

Mayor Michael Laws has hailed the turn-out as "a stunning success and a clear indication that Wanganui people want to have a say in how their ratepayer dollars are spent".

The results below indicate the first choice percentages for each project, and then the total percentage of choices (first, second and third) that each project received.
