Rates for 2009/10 and major decisions for the 10-Year Plan 2009-2019 The 10-Year Plan 2009-2019 requires important decisions to be made for the coming year and the next decade. There are many choices about how to move ahead as a community and we want as many of our citizens as possible to be involved in those decisions. For that reason, we do not intend to rely solely on the traditional submissions process. While submissions are still welcomed, we are extending our annual referendum process to seek direct replies from the community on important issues. In this way we empower thousands of residents and ratepayers to have a direct say on the key issues. It is a new opportunity for our community to guide council in its decision-making. Everyone – both ratepayers and residents – on the Wanganui electoral roll is being asked to vote in Referendum ’09. We want to know what you think about a number of rates scenarios for 2009/10 and to vote yes or no about some key policy options. The Referendum ’09 voting process will run alongside the submissions process. See the Topics page for details on the Referendum ’09 issues relating to the Draft 10-Year Plan 2009-2019. In addition, we are asking a question on the spelling of Wanganui. More information about this referendum issue is available here and further background information will be available soon. Voting closes at 5.00pm on Thursday, 21 May 2009
